History:
The history of Portmarnock goes back over a century. In 1893 a Scottish insurance broker, William Pickeman with his friend George Ross visited the land where they immediately realized it would perfectly suit for a finest golf course. At that time, the land was approached by only boat was owned by the famous whisky distiller, John Jameson. The land was only in private golf use by the owner form the mid of the nineteenth century. The public open for play dates back fifty years later, when it originally had nine holes to play. Some years after, in 1894 the course was extended to eighteen holes. Portmarnock is famous for its hosting important events such as the Irish Open and the Canada Cup.
