Course Description

Ganton is famous for its hosting many significant matches and championships, attracting golfers from all over the world. It is also proud to be always associated with the story and history of Golf in Britain.  Ganton has many distinctive features from unique and deep bunkers to wild and rough gorse, which give unforgettable experience for all players.

History:The course was designed by Tom Chisholm of St Andrews, from the home of golf, who played first on the course 1891. The course was situated on the Ganton Estate owned by Sir Charles Legard, on a naturally rough ground which was once covered and part of the North Sea. The soil turned out to be an ideal base to establish golf course. The development was mainly carried out with the influence of Northern railway Line with Ganton Halt. Soon after, Ganton was structured for an ideal golf course where history was made in 1896, when Harry Vardon during his stay won the first three of six Open Championships. The course has been coming through several changes in its architecture and developments of its nature, then reached its final format in the 1930’s.

Quotes:

Amateur Champion and Captain of the R&A, Sir Michael Bonnallack has outlined the distinctiveness of Ganton: “The journey from tee to green on every hole is one of the most enjoyable golfing examinations that a player is ever likely to experience”.
